Lighting
Ordering Light Fittings and Bulbs:
When you order a light fitting, please note that bulbs are not included unless explicitly stated in the product information. If you need bulbs, be sure to check the details before making your purchase.
Non-Electric Pendants:
Non-electric pendants are designed to fit on your existing ceiling-mounted lamp holder. They don’t have electrical components, which means you can enjoy stylish lighting without the need for an electrician.
Bathroom Lighting:
For bathroom lighting, it’s essential to choose a fitting that is IP44 or above. Luckily, all our bathroom lights meet this requirement, ensuring safety and functionality.
Difference Between Class I, Class II and Class III Lighting Fixtures:
Class I Lighting: A Quick Guide
When a light falls into Class I, it means it’s protected by basic insulation. But what does that really mean? Let’s break it down:
Basic Insulation: Imagine it as a cozy blanket for your light. It keeps the electrical parts safe and snug.
Conductive Touchable Parts: These are the bits you might accidentally brush against—like the friendly handshake of a light switch. In Class I lights, these parts are also connected to the ground. Safety first!
Non-Wired Lighting: Even if your light isn’t wired up yet, it still needs a connection to the ground. Think of it as a little grounding hug.
Fixed-Mounted LED-Light Engines: These are the powerhouse behind your lights. For Class I, they need a creepage distance of 2.5mm (like a respectful nod across the room) and an air gap of 1.5mm (a polite wave from a safe distance).
Class II Lighting: Safety with a Twist!
Let’s unravel the mystery of Class II or Double Insulated lighting together. These clever light buddies have a few tricks up their sleeves:
Basic Insulation: Just like a snug sweater, basic insulation keeps the electrical bits cozy and safe.
Extra Layer of Safety: Class II luminaires go the extra mile. They add another layer of protection—like wearing both a raincoat and carrying an umbrella. This could be double insulation or reinforced insulation. Fancy, right? ☂️
Grounded Outlet Connection: Your light plugged into a European-style outlet. It’s like a well-traveled friend who knows all the right adapters.
Reinforced Insulation: That’s the secret! It’s like wrapping your light in bubble wrap for extra safety.
And now, let’s talk about those fixed-mounted LED modules. They need a creepage distance of 5mm and an aperture of 3mm (a peekaboo hole for curiosity).
Class III Luminaires: The Transformer Tale
Let’s dive into the enchanting world of Class III Lighting! These little light wizards have a unique power source:
External Transformer: Imagine it as a magical gateway. Class III luminaires are fed from an external transformer. It’s like connecting your luminaire to a secret energy well.
Safety Extra-Low Voltage (SELV): SELV is the superhero juice that keeps everything safe. It’s like sipping from a tiny cup of lightning—energetic but not too shocking!
Protection Transformer: This trusty companion ensures that the voltage stays in check. It’s like having a wise guardian watching over your luminaire.
Voltage Limits: Our luminaire must play by the rules. It can’t generate higher voltage—it’s a well-behaved light buddy!
What Is An IP Rating?
IP ratings, also known as Ingress Protection ratings, provide valuable information about how well-protected a light fixture is against solids (such as dust) and moisture. When shopping for outdoor or bathroom lighting, you’ll often encounter an IP code followed by two numbers. Let’s break it down:
First Digit: Solid Protection
The first digit indicates how well the fitting guards against solid objects.
0: No protection against contact or entrance by any object.
1: Protects against large surface areas of the body but not deliberate tampering.
2: Shields against fingers or similar-sized tools and objects.
3: Resists thick wires, tools, and similar-sized foreign bodies.
4: Guards against most wires, screws, etc.
5: Dust-protected (large amounts of dust won’t interfere with operation).
6: Dust-tight (impossible for dust to enter).
X: Indicates undefined protection against solid objects.
Second Digit: Liquid Protection
The second digit reveals the level of liquid protection
0: Not protected.
1: Withstands dripping water (vertical falling drops).
2: Handles dripping water when tilted up to 15°.
3: Resists water spray at any angle up to 60°.
4: Shields against splashing water from any direction.
5: Endures water jets projected by a nozzle (6.3mm).
6: Remains unaffected by powerful water jets (12.5mm nozzle).
Remember, a higher IP rating signifies better protection. For instance, an IP67-rated fixture is dust-tight and can be submerged in more than 1 meter of water.
What Type of Bulb Do I Need?
Choosing the right light bulb can make a world of difference in creating the perfect ambiance for your space. Let’s shed some light on the options:

Classic Choice: Despite being less energy-efficient, their timeless appeal remains unmatched.
LED Bulbs
Bright and Durable: LED bulbs are super bright and have an impressive lifespan. Great for task lighting, reading nooks, or outdoor fixtures.
Energy-Efficient: They use less power, which is kind to both your wallet and the environment.
Versatile: Available in various color temperatures, from warm to cool white.

What Does Earthed Mean?
Earthing: Keeping You Safe from Electric Shocks
Imagine you’re in your home, surrounded by all your favorite gadgets and appliances. But wait, what if something goes wrong? What if there’s a fault in the electrical system? That’s where earthing comes in.
Earthing provides a special pathway for electric current, so instead of flowing through you, the current takes a detour—straight into the ground.
Earthing uses a protective conductor, this wire connects your electrical system to the earth.
When a fault occurs (like a short circuit), the protective device (either a circuit-breaker or a fuse) senses it with the protective device springing into action and switching off the electric current to the faulty circuit.
